Las Maravillas del Cuerpo explores the form and contours of the human body,
transforming parts into vistas that suggest other realms. The work’s abstraction allows
the images to shift perception from something as small as a body to a vast landscape.
While most of the work shows my body, these are not self-portraits; my body serves as
an anonymous model. The experience of using my figure nude in this process informs
the sense of intimacy found in the stillness and sensuality of the work. The work was
made using a digital camera, and the prints are 22x32 on enhanced matte paper.
The images, with their flowing forms, evoke the concept of a metaphorical landscape,
prompting me to consider how age and experience leave marks on the body as changes
in nature leave their impressions on the landscape. I want to expose our naked skin in a
way that is not sexualized but admired for how beautiful and wonderful it can become with a small twist of fantasy and abstraction.
